A man from Grand-Barachois, New Brunswick has been sentenced to seven years in prison in connection with various drug related charges stemming from a joint investigation by the RCMP in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

RCMP say 47-year-old Guy Joseph Cormier appeared in Moncton Provincial Court on Thursday and was sentenced to seven years in federal prison less time already served.

He is also prohibited from possessing firearms for life.

Police say Cormier had previously pleaded guilty to four counts of trafficking hydromorphone, two counts of trafficking cocaine, one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in hydromorphone, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine, and one count of possession of methamphetamine.

Cormier also forfeited his residence in Grand-Barachois to the Crown, police say. The home is valued at approximately $468,000.

The RCMP’s Operation Lunge was launched in September 2013 with the goal of disrupting illegal drug activity and distribution, as well as to identify assets obtained through crime.
