Missing Man’s Vehicle, Human Remains Found Near Sunny Corner, N.B.
RCMP say a vehicle registered to an 84-year-old man missing in the Miramichi area for nearly two months has been located, and human remains were found nearby.
Marcel Berthiaume of Trout Brook, N.B. has not been in contact with friends or family since May 20, according to Cpl. Chuck Plaxton of the Northeast District RCMP. Berthiaume has been known to routinely take drives in the woods. Despite an extensive search, there has been no sign of him since his disappearance, Plaxton said.
On Tuesday, around 12:45 p.m., two hunters reported finding a Jeep matching the description of Mr. Berthiaume's vehicle in the woods near Sunny Corner. The vehicle was located by RCMP members around 5 p.m. and confirmed it belonged to Berthiaume.
Human remains were discovered a short distance away from the Jeep. Police say further testing will be required to make a positive identification. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
The RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation.
