The search for Ronald Savoie of Grande-Digue came to an end late Tuesday when RCMP and the Shediac Fire Department were called to Scoudouc River, about 1.5 kilometers from Savoie's last known location near Edna's Pond.

"At approximately 4:50 p.m., we received a call that Mr. Savoie's body had been found in the Scoudouc River by two friends,"  said Cpl. Alain LeBlanc of the Southeast District RCMP. "We were able to recover Mr. Savoie's body and our investigation is now concluded. We have notified the family and they have asked for privacy during this difficult time."

Savoie had been canoeing with a friend on Saturday, April 26 when the canoe capsized in the swift-moving river.  His friend made it safely to shore.

Members of the Southeast District RCMP, Tri-County Ground Search and Rescue, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, fire and ambulance crews as well as numerous volunteers participated in the search for the missing canoeist.
