The Caraquet RCMP is seeking the public's assistance in locating a stolen tractor trailer containing frozen lobster.

Police say the loaded trailer was stolen on Canada Day, July 1st, at about 10:15 p.m. from Pêcheries LeBreton & Fils Ltée lobster processing plant in Grande-Anse, New Brunswick.

Video surveillance shows a dark-coloured Volvo transport truck arriving from the east, hooking onto the trailer and then heading towards Bathurst.

The truck is described as a day cab, with no sleeping section. Police say the front licence plate was attached to the middle of the truck’s front grill and not in the usual location. Two yellow and red towing lights were on the rear top corners of the truck.

The trailer is described as 53-feet long with two axles and underside wind deflectors.

RCMP say there are no markings on the trailer but it does have a refrigeration unit on the front. It has a Nova Scotia licence plate PT 6-65-11. Police say the letters are small and the P sits on top of the T.

Cpl. Jayson Hansen is warning seafood lovers to steer clear of deals that seem too good to be true, saying possession of any stolen good is a crime.

He says police are not disclosing the value of the pilfered lobsters because it might encourage illegal sales, but that the amount is more than $5,000.

The incident is the latest in a series of crustacean capers in the Maritimes, including the theft of roughly 2,100 kilograms of lobster in Nova Scotia earlier this year.
