An online petition calling for stricter policies regarding stun gun use that gained some serious momentum over the weekend.

According to thepetitionsite.com, a petition called “Canadian Police: Don’t Tase First, Ask Questions Later" surfaced earlier this month and by Saturday, it had already obtained 3,400 of its target 5,000 signatures.

The petition is said to be a retaliation against the way Canadian law enforcement handled the case of 27-year-old Marc-Andre Fontaine, in which mounties felt it necessary to use a taser on the suspect in order to make an arrest. However, the impact of the taser caused the suspect to later die in an Edmonton hospital.

Reports indicate that the case is still under investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team.
