52-year-old Elizabeth Hearn pleaded guilty Tuesday in Grand Falls Provincial Court to three charges related to possession of contraband tobacco.

According to the RCMP, Hearn was arrested on December 5, 2012 after a six month investigation conducted by the RCMP Federal Operations West - Saint-Léonard detachment.

Police seized a vehicle and more than 159,000 contraband cigarettes, which have been forfeited to the Crown.

RCMP say organized crime groups are largely behind the manufacture, distribution and smuggling of contraband tobacco.
