10-Year-Old Boy Struck by Pickup in Grand Isle
A 10-year-old boy who was struck by a pickup truck in the parking lot of the Grand Isle Community Center Wednesday evening remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
Maine State Police say 56-year-old Gary Campbell of Grand Isle was pulling out from a parking spot in his Ford pickup at the Community Center on Route 1 shortly before 6 p.m.
Campbell was slowly approaching the north corner of the building and could not see the 10-year-old boy who was running up to the corner. Police say the boy ran in front of the pickup and was hit.
The boy suffered a broken leg and ankle and was transported by Van Buren Ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent. He was later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment of those injuries.
The Aroostook County Sheriff's Office also responded to the accident.
