The National Weather Service in Caribou has issued a Winter Storm Warning for northwest Aroostook County from late Monday night through Tuesday afternoon. Forecasters say snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches is likely, with the highest totals over the high terrain of the far northwest.

The warning includes Fort Kent, Madawaska, Frenchville, Allagash, and Clayton Lake areas.

Snow will result in difficult driving conditions, forecasters say. Heavy, wet snow may cause downed trees and branches to snap with scattered power outages possible.

The  National Weather Service says winds will be from the north 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

The Presque Isle/Caribou area is expected to get 2-5 inches of snow while southern Aroostook will see mostly rain and little snow accumulation.
