
Three Arrested after Drug Trafficking at Motel in Maine
Two people were arrested and charged with drug trafficking at a motel and a third person was arrested and charged with drug possession in Baileyville.
Three Arrested and Drugs Seized at Motel
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency executed a search warrant at a motel after a week-long drug trafficking investigation.
Agents Conducted Surveillance at Motel on Suspicion of Drug Trafficking
“During the surveillance, agents observed activity in one of the rooms that was consistent with illegal drug trafficking,” according to MDEA.
MDEA Agents Saw Woman Meet Up with Vehicle at Motel
MDEA’s Down East Task Force saw 36-year-old Katherine Smith from Baileyville leave a room at the motel and meet with a vehicle parked outside.
Woman Arrested and Charged
Smith was detained later and arrested. Smith was charged with Unlawful Drug Trafficking.
Vehicle Stopped and Man Arrested
The vehicle she met with was stopped by the Baileyville Police Department. The driver, 37-year-old Bruce Bailey from Baileyville was arrested and charged with Unlawful Drug Possession.
Motel Room Searched and Drugs Seized
The motel room was searched and agents seized approximately 64 grams of methamphetamine, along with other drug trafficking evidence.

Second Vehicle Stopped and Searched
Another vehicle associated with the motel was pulled over later in the day.
Third Person Pulled Over and Arrested
A 40-year-old from New Jersey, Dim Akopian, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Drug Trafficking.

Search Warrant at Suspect’s Residence
Agents then executed a warrant at Smith’s residence in Calais and located additional drug trafficking evidence.
All Three Suspects Taken to Jail and Booked
All three were taken to the Washington County Jail and booked. The investigation is active and ongoing.

Multiple Agencies Assisted in the Investigation
Assisting MDEA agents was the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the Baileyville Police Department, and United States Border Patrol, the Maine State Police Tactical Team, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
