According to information from DEEMI  Search & Rescue, the child was reported to have gone looking for a family dog around 7 p.m. and did not return. The agency said  K-9 units and Border patrol agents with night vision goggles joined many volunteers in the search overnight in the wooded area around 755 Westmanland Road.

The boy, named Tait, and his border collie reportedly found their way out of the woods to a road and were picked up by a passerby shortly after 6:00 Tuesday morning.  The boy has been reunited with his family after apparently spending about 11 hours in the woods.  There were thunderstorms in that area Monday evening.

DEEMI said a Border Patrol helicopter with Infrared technology was also activated Monday night. The Maine State Police, the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office, and the Maine Warden Service were among the agencies called in to help in the search for the boy.
