A body found along the banks of the Restigouche River in northern New Brunswick has been identified as a Campbellton man reported missing in January.

The Campbellton RCMP was called at around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, after a person walking along the edge of the river near Rimap Park made the discovery.

Police said Friday that the body was identified as 59-year-old Lawrence Caissie who was last seen leaving the Campbellton Regional Hospital on January 4. Caissie was reported missing to police the following day.Police are continuing to investigate the exact cause of death, however, foul play is not believed to be involved. An autopsy was being conducted.
