Prince’s musical legacy will now live on through a local middle school in Minneapolis.

According to WCCO-TV, the late musician’s ex-wife, Manuela Testolini, and close friend Andre Cymone donated a music room at Anwatin Middle School in honor of the music icon. As part of the In a Perfect World Foundation, founded by Testolini, they gifted music students with 18 brand new keyboards, guitars, amplifiers, percussion and acoustic instruments.

Testolini wanted to make sure that Prince’s work in the community continued long after his death.

“He wanted to impact the community, and he did for so long. We don’t want there to be a hole in that space," she said. "We want to make sure that is continuing as much as Andre said, as much as the music is continued, the impact has to continue, and he was an activist, he was a revolutionary, he was a philanthropist. We want to make sure that is elevated and kept at the front."

Cymone Told WCCO-TV that Prince would be proud of having a music room name after him and, more importantly, seeing young people pursue their passions with music.

“Think he would be really truly honestly appreciative," he said. "I mean, it’s great to go play his music and to do all of that, and that’s wonderful, and it’s a beautiful thing for his musical legacy, but I think the extension to that is to give back to kids."

Extra props go to music teacher Edward Barlow who created a music program for Anwatin Middle School from scratch. Now with the charitable donation, students will have a chance to dream, practice and reach their goals.
