First Lt. James Zimmerman, a Marine from Aroostook County, who was tragically killed in action, was honored at a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new Marine Corps Reserve Training Center in Brunswick.

Governor Paul LePage attended the ceremony and he said that the new training center will be named after Zimmerman, who last killed in a line of duty in Afghanistan back in 2010.

The late marine was native from Presque Isle who also graduate the Houlton Christian Academy and soon after his graduation enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2003.

“First Lt. Zimmerman was an exemplary soldier and Mainer,” said LePage in a press release. “It is fitting that Alpha Company, the unit with whom he began his military career, honor his sacrifice for our country.”
