Man Drowns in Wytopitlock Lake in Southern Aroostook County
The Maine Warden Service reports a Connecticut man has drowned on a lake in southern Aroostook County after he and a friend were thrown out of their fishing boat.
Wardens say the 12-foot aluminum boat was swamped in choppy waters and capsized in Wytopitlock Lake in Glenwood around 3:30 Friday afternoon.
One man was able to swim approximately 100 feet and get to shore, but the other man went under.
Six warden units and a pontoon plane responded to the scene, as well as several members of the Haynesville Volunteer Fire Department.
The victim’s body was recovered around 5:30 p.m. in about 7 feet of water. The body was transported to a funeral home in Lincoln, Maine.
Identities of the men have not been released pending notification of their families. Wardens say neither man was wearing a life jacket, even though there were some in the boat.
