To Celebrate Maine’s Official Berry – Eat Them, Lots of Them
Wild Blueberries. Yes please. Tis the season. What took so long to name the wild blueberry as Maine’s state berry. What were we thinking before 1991.
They are plentiful right now, and any I’ve had this season were delicious. Actually, blueberries are part of the daily intake. Especially right now as the harvest is underway. Another August benefit.
There are many ways to eat blueberries. And here are a couple of ways to do so and do some community good too.
Lots of Mainers get to love on those sweet berries, and so do the tourists too. 60,000 acres of wild blueberries in Maine. You bet, we are number one.

This Saturday in Ellsworth
Ellsworth Rotary Blueberry Pancake Breakfast is from 7 to 19 a.m. Saturday the 5th.
All under the big tent. Down East Family YMCA’s Wiggins Center.
The price is only $9 for adults and $5 for children under 10.
It’s all you can eat blueberry pancakes and breakfast also includes sausage, juice and coffee.
All benefiting the Ellsworth Rotary Club.
Next Saturday the 12th in Blue Hill
The First Congregational Church of Blue Hill is the host, and all are invited.
Next Saturday the 12th is the annual Blueberry festival, and it begins at 9 a.m. with a pancake breakfast.
There is also juice and coffee and tea.
The pancake breakfast ends at 11:30 a.m. and then the kitchen is repurposed for lobster rolls and crab rolls from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Blueberry Festival also has live music all day and activities for kids all day too.
And bonus, if you get hungry again and are craving more blueberries, there is a blueberry baked goods table. Plus, blueberry fizzies, and new this year, fresh blueberries for sale to take home.
Celebrate the blueberry with all from Blue Hill and surrounding towns all over, along with those ‘summer irritants’ visiting too.
