Maine State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon that shut down US Route 1 in Bridgewater.

Sixty-five-year-old James Turner of Presque Isle was driving a 2002 Ford pickup and was towing a trailer hauling another pickup. Police say Turner was coming down a hill when the trailer lost traction and began to slide. The trailer veered left into oncoming traffic and struck the front of a tractor trailer.

The impact caused Turner to lose control of the truck and sent him off the right side of the roadway. The pickup rolled over, struck a utility pole, and came to rest on the passenger side. The pole snapped and ripped the wires from a nearby home.

Meanwhile, the front left tire on the tractor trailer broke away from the truck causing the rig to end up in the ditch. No one was injured in the crash.

Turner was issued a summons for operating with inadequate brakes and for failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
