Maine State Police say that at approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday, Trooper John Darcy stopped at the Sherman Irving Gas Station while on patrol. The trooper recognized Shawn (Kaelin) Michaud of Stacyville at the gas station who had an active arrest warrant from 2006. The officer approached Michaud to speak with him and informed him he was under arrest.

Police say before Michaud turned around to put his hands behind his back, he discarded items onto the passenger seat of the vehicle. Trooper Darcy said he located two vials that later tested positive as methamphetamine.

The 30-year-old Michaud was placed under arrest and transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.

While at the jail, Trooper Darcy said he observed Michaud attempt to conceal a pill in his mouth which the officer was able to recover. A further search of the man’s clothing and person by Trooper Darcy and correctional staff allegedly turned up four more prescription pills and a bottle of methadone.

As a result, Michaud was charged with the Failure to Appear warrant, two counts of Possession of a Schedule W drug (methamphetamine, methadone), one count of Possession of a Schedule X drug (prescription pills), and Felony Trafficking in Prison Contraband.

He is being held at the Aroostook County Jail.
