Body of Fort Fairfield Man Recovered in Square Lake, Two Others Still Missing [UPDATE]
The Maine Warden Service says the body of one man has been recovered and the search continues for two others presumed drowned after their boat capsized on Square Lake in northern Aroostook County.
Wardens say that around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, four men from Fort Fairfield boarded a 12-foot motorboat and headed out on to Square Lake, just west of Stockholm.
The boat began taking on water and capsized in extremely windy conditions. Wardens say the group clung to the watercraft until dark.
The only one wearing a life jacket, 23-year-old Charles Guimond, was able to safely get to shore, where he was rescued Wednesday morning and was taken to the hospital.
On Wednesday afternoon, wardens reported they had recovered the body of 56-year-old Martin Chambers of Fort Fairfield in shallow water. The two missing men are identified as 51-year-old Mark Chambers and 43-year-old Eric Sherwood.
The search and recovery effort on Square Lake includes a Warden Service aircraft, game wardens and dive teams.
