Maine State Police say 31-year-old Fay Douglass was driving her 2004 Chevrolet SUV on the Woodland Center Road in Woodland just before 9:00 p.m. A moose came into the roadway and Douglass was not able to avoid the animal, according to a news release from Corporal Dennis Quint. The SUV struck the moose, killing it and disabling the vehicle.

Neither Douglass nor her passenger were injured in the crash, Quint said. The vehicle was towed from the scene. The crash was investigated by Trooper Nathan Desrosier.

State Police said speed was not a factor in the accident and the occupants were wearing their seat belts.
