‘SNL’ Sets Katy Perry and More for Strike-Threatened Final Shows
SNL declared its final hosts of the season earlier than usual, tying the announcements of Jimmy Fallon, Chris Pine, Melissa McCarthy and Dwayne Johnson to its live coast-to-coast debut. Now, the final shows have Katy Perry and others among the musical guests, assuming the Writers Guild strike doesn’t shutter the season early.
Jimmy Fallon’s April return brought with it word that Chris Pine’s May 6 debut would bring LCD Soundsystem to the SNL stage, and now the final Season 42 musical guests have been confirmed as well. The May 13 Melissa McCarthy episode will return HAIM as musical guest, while Katy Perry will make her fourth SNL appearance (third as musical guest, once hosting) with the May 20 Dwayne Johnson finale.
That said, it’s looking increasingly possible that a May 2 WGA strike would bring an early end to Season 42, leaving Jimmy Fallon’s April appearance as the de facto finale (and likely Bobby Moynihan’s last show). However long a potential strike lasts, The Wrap claims SNL wouldn’t use any pre-taped sketches or scripts, lest it undercut the Guild’s efforts.
Here’s hoping the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers makes the right call for the Writers Guild, and stay tuned for more on the (maybe) final SNL episodes of Season 42.
