Ottawa Pledges $7 Million For Edmundston Arena
The city of Edmundston this week received a promise of $7 million from the Government of Canada towards the construction of a new multi-purpose amphitheatre/sports complex in the city.
Bernard Valcourt, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development and Member of Parliament for Madawaska-Restigouche announced the news on Tuesday.
The 91,000 square foot arena will offer seating for 2,400 people, with space to accommodate another 1,300. The $21 million cost is to be shared by the federal, provincial and municipal governments.
The Edmundston project is expected to create up to 400 jobs during the two-year construction phase and 200 direct and indirect jobs once the amphitheater is in full operation.
The provincial government has yet to confirm its financial participation.
