Nashville Plantation Couple Loses Home in Fire
A fire Wednesday morning destroyed a home on Route 11 in Nashville Plantation, halfway between Ashland and Portage.
The Ashland Fire Department responded to the call around 9 a.m., after a passerby noticed the blaze and called 911. Fire Chief Don Bouley said nearly 20 firefighters from Ashland, Portage, Masardis and Mapleton worked to bring the stubborn fire under control. He said the metal roof over the original roof made it difficult for crews to get at the flames. Firefighters were on the scene for about 6 hours.
The two-story home is owned by Perry Charette. He and his wife were not home at the time and no one was injured. Charette also runs a small hardware store next to the house, which was untouched by the fire. The home was a total loss.
Chief Bouley said the blaze appears to have started around a clothes dryer but his department is conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause.
