Man Runs Into Glass Door After Theft at Presque Isle Store
A Presque Isle man faces theft charges after he allegedly stole about $500 worth of electronic equipment from a Main Street business.
According to Sgt. Mark Barnes of the Presque Isle Police Department, 22-year-old Richard J. Churchill was walking around inside Stew's Downtown Sight & Sound around 11 a.m. Wednesday when he grabbed a video surveillance system and two other items from a shelf.
In attempting to flee the store, Churchill ran into a plate glass door, shattering the glass, and suffered severe cuts to his face. Sgt. Barnes said Churchill fell on the sidewalk outside the store and dropped the merchandise.
Officers followed a trail of blood and were able to track down the suspect a short time later near Chapman Street. Churchill was taken by Crown Ambulance to the Aroostook Medical Center. He required numerous stitches. The Presque Isle Police Department charged him with theft and violation of bail conditions.
Sgt. Barnes said Churchill had already been charged three times before in connection with other thefts and there are charges pending in two more cases.
