Masardis Trading Post Lost to Fire
A fire Wednesday night destroyed the Masardis Trading Post on Route 11 just south of Ashland.
A passerby reportedly saw smoke coming from the building shortly after 8 o'clock last evening. Eighteen firefighters from Masardis and Ashland responded and battled intense flames in temperatures that plunged to about 20 below zero. Crews were still on the scene after midnight.
The owners, who lived in an apartment above the store, were not home at the time. No one was injured. The cause of the blaze has not officially been determined. The building was considered a total loss.
We'll have more information on the fire as it becomes available.
