Is Elf on the Shelf Worth it? [POLL]

In years past I've seen posts on Facebook from my friends talking about Elf on the Shelf. It seems to be a tradition in a lot of homes, but is it worth it?

I know it's early to even be thinking about Christmas, but I'm trying to plan ahead for once in my life.

I have a 3-year-old daughter who just loves interactive things. I'm always looking for fun and creative ways to get her excited about things. She loves Christmas and all the presents, but I'm thinking of adding the Elf on the Shelf tradition in my home this year.

I'm looking for some input from folks who have used it in their homes in the past. The cost seems very reasonable to me. They come in around $30. But does the Elf on the Shelf work? Does your child seem to behave better when you're using the Elf on the Shelf?
