I vividly recall the restless excitement of Christmas Eve nights, anticipating the surprises awaiting beneath the tree the next morning. I often say, "There's nothing more exciting than the unknown," and this sentiment rings especially true on Christmas Eve.

Now, let's delve into the origin of the tradition—why do we bring trees into our homes during the holiday season?

According to History.com, this practice has roots that extend further back than one might imagine. Long before the rise of Christianity, plants and trees that retained their greenery throughout the year held special significance for people during the winter. Similar to how folks decorate their homes with pine, spruce, and fir trees, ancient cultures used to hang evergreen boughs over their doors and windows. In various countries, there was also a belief that these evergreens could ward off witches, ghosts, evil spirits, and illness.
