A National Weather Service report had issued a flood warning on Tuesday of this week. Although the ice jam broke on the Aroostook River, things seem to be o.k.

Ice jams are nothing new to people living around rivers in the County. An ice jam or dam, is when the temperatures begin to rise and break up the ice on rivers and streams. For residents near these places, cautions are advised.

Fort Fairfield Police reported that the ice on the Aroostook River broke shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening, thus causing the water to flow down the river.

However, the Aroostook County Emergency Management Agency urged residents to take precautions.

Ice dams and jams can cause a problem to communities as the water could begin to back up which brings water levels high enough to flood roads and towns.
