A Burnham, Maine man pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court, to using the internet to access and view child pornography. The man was indicted in May.

United States Attorney Halsey B. Frank made the announcement that David L. Cook, 60, of Burnham, Maine made the guilty plea.

According to court records, in August of 2016, Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit (MCCU) received a report from Microsoft that a user had uploaded an image of child porn.

Federal and state officers obtained a physical address for that user, executed a warrant at his address, and seized the defendant's computer.

The MCCU's forensic examination of the computer revealed 30 images of child pornography and that Mr. Cook searched the internet for child porn on dozens of occasions between March and August of 2016.

Cook faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
