The Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program on Monday is announcing the launch of its "Backpack Program," which will serve about 200 children from eight elementary schools along Maine's midcoast.

Under the program, the children each Friday will receive nutritious food for the weekend. The program was created in collaboration with the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

Organizers will hold a press conference Monday morning in Brunswick, where U.S. Sen. Angus King will be among the speakers.
