Woman Dies in Fire at New Brunswick Seniors’ Complex
RCMP say one woman is dead following a fire early Tuesday morning at a seniors' complex in Coles Island, N.B.
Emergency crews responded to a report of a fire around 5 a.m. at the Grand Washademoak Lions Seniors Complex, a six unit building on Route 715.
A 71-year-old woman who was a resident of the building was found deceased at the scene, according to Sgt. Jim MacPherson of the Sussex RCMP. Five other residents were safely evacuated from the building and are being cared for with the assistance of the Red Cross.
Members of the Southeast District RCMP Sussex Detachment attended the scene, along with Coroner Services and the Fire Marshal's office.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. At this time it is not considered suspicious, police say.
