Two Charged with Multiple Drug and Firearms Offences

A couple from Montreal have been charged in Woodstock Provincial Court following the seizure of drugs and firearms.

A vehicle travelling on Highway 95 from Woodstock, New Brunswick towards the United States on December 30, 2018, turned around and did not enter into the US. It then re-entered Canada at the Woodstock border crossing where Canada Border Services Agency officers found a package of suspected drugs during a preliminary questioning and vehicle inspection. While one of the officers was examining the package inside the CBSA office, the vehicle fled.

The vehicle was stopped later in Quebec by the Sûreté du Québec not far from the New Brunswick border. An additional package of what was believed to be drugs was seized. The two people in the car were then returned to New Brunswick. Edmundston Police  also provided assistance.

New Brunswick RCMP seized approximately nine kilograms of hashish, three firearms and an undisclosed amount of cash.

55-year-old Alain Michelin and 51-year-old Chantal Landerman, both from Montreal appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court on January 11, and were jointly charged with the following;

• Unlawfully distribute more than 30 grams of dried cannabis
• Unlawfully distribute cannabis known to be illicit
• Possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution
• Possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling
• Trafficking in property obtained by the commission of a criminal offence
• 3 counts of possession of a firearm
• 3 counts of possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm

Alain Michelin was also charged with fleeing from police, two counts of breaching firearm prohibitions and one count of breaching probation.

Chantal Landerman faces additional charges of possession of methamphetamine and breaching a firearms prohibition.

The couple have been in police custody since their arrest. They remain in custody until their next court appearance on March 13.
