Severe thunderstorms moving through the area have knocked out power to more 1,700 Emera Maine customers in parts of northern Aroostook County.

Emera Maine crews have been dispatched to restore electricity to approximately 1,740 customers. Towns affected include Eagle Lake, New Canada, Wallagrass Plantation, Perham, Woodland, Stockholm, Westmanland and surrounding areas.

Workers will remain in the field restoring power until all customers have been restored. Power is expected to be restored by 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Emera Maine encourages customers to stay clear of downed power lines and trees in contact with power lines. Customers may report outages calling their Customer Service Center at (207) 973-2020 or 1-855-EMERA11 (1-855-363-7211).
