10/14 - Troopers Casavant and Sylvia were assigned to follow up on leads related to a string of burglaries in the greater Houlton area. Throughout the week significant progress was made on the case. Troopers are continuing to gather evidence and get all the involved parties identified before making any arrests. MDEA, Aroostook SO, Houlton PD and Ellsworth PD are assisting in the investigation.

10/15 - Tr. Marquis responded to Saint John Plt, for a criminal trespass complaint. The suspect entered a residence started yelling waking the man and his family up. The suspect got into a physical altercation with the homeowner. The homeowner physically got the man outside and he tried fighting his way back inside several times. Tr. Marquis arrived placed the man under arrest and he still resisted and was shackled into the cruiser with the assistance of the homeowner. The man was charged with OUI, OAS, Refusing to submit to an arrest and Criminal trespass. He was taken to the Caribou PD where he was held overnight.

10/16 - Tr. Flynn arrested a 50 year old Mars Hill man for Violation of PFA. Subject called the victim twice while Tr. Flynn was taking her complaint. The subject asked if he could come over and when he arrived he was greeted by Tr. Flynn and received a free ride to Houlton.

10/17 – Sgt. Fuller and K-9 Gleni completed several weeks of training and are now certified as a Drug Detection Team. Congratulations to both for reaching this important step.

10/18 - Tr. Ferland was heading north on I95. As he approached the Houlton exit, a vehicle met him heading south in the northbound lane. Tr. Ferland stopped the vehicle and turned it around. After approaching the vehicle, Tr. Ferland learned that the 73 year old man from Texas had taken a left off the northbound onramp in Houlton in attempt to locate a hotel. The man was summonsed for operating a motor vehicle the wrong direction on a divided highway.

10/18 - Tr. Monahan responded to an assault in Mars Hill. Male subject reported that another male had come into his apartment uninvited over a child custody dispute. After repeated warnings to leave were ignored, the apartment owner used a stun gun on the offender in an attempt to force him out of the apartment. The two males then fought briefly in the apartment before the apartment owner was able to force the other male outside who then fled the residence. Offender was located a short time later and arrested for criminal trespass and assault and transported to ACJ.

10/18 – Tr. Whalen assisted PIPD with locating a vehicle in Chapman involved in a hit and run. While at the residence Tr. Whalen discovered male subject had warrants. Male was arrested without incident and transported to ACJ.

10/19 - Sgt. Fuller, Tr. Quint, and Tr. Ferland responded to a residence in Island Falls where there was a report that a 25 year old male had assaulted his 33 year old girlfriend. The woman said she had locked herself in her bedroom. She said the man had loaded a shotgun and left the residence. The man was arrested and charged with domestic violence assault.

10/19 – Tr. Clark received information of a possible stalking case in Mapleton. After making some independent observations, Tr. Clark approached the victim and learned that she is in the process of getting a divorce and was not aware her estranged husband was following her. Tr. Clark coordinated DV services for the woman and she will be seeking a PFA this week.

10/21 - Troopers Flynn and Casavant arrested a male subject at his house in Chapman for VCR because he was violating conditions prohibiting contact with his wife.

10/22 – Troop F Troopers requested the assistance of the Tactical Team in Amity. Troopers had taken a report of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon the evening of Oct. 21. Due to darkness and a heavily wooded remote area where the incident occurred, Troopers returned at daylight to arrest the suspect. Verbal contact confirmed the man was still armed and he would not exit the residence. The tactical team and negotiators arrived and were able to convince the man to exit the residence unarmed. He was taken into custody by Troop F personnel.

10/23- Tr. Flynn responded to people fighting at the Rec center in Mars Hill. A juvenile reportedly showed a knife during the incident. Tr. Flynn interviewed the juvenile and possible charges of criminal threatening are coming.

10/24 – A make-up firearms session was held in Houlton to qualify personnel who missed their previously scheduled date due to the Oakfield double-homicide.

10/24 – Tr. Hafford arrested a 61 year old female from Grand Isle for Aggravated Assault following an investigation into several incidents involving the woman and her soon to be ex-husband. The investigation revealed while the husband was giving the woman instructions on how to safely operate a chain saw, she used the saw to intentionally cut the man’s arm just above the elbow. The man suffered serious injury.

10/24 – Tr. Quint responded to a single vehicle crash in Haynesville. A bald tire failed and caused the operator to lose control, leaving the road and striking several trees. The man had minor injuries but received a summons for the defective tire as well as OAS.

10/25 – Tr. Cyr responded to a burglary in Perham. The homeowner discovered copper piping had been removed from a house. There have been several houses burglarized in the area and their copper stolen that area departments are working on. Investigation continues.

10/25 - Tr. Monahan attended a speaking engagement at Fort Fairfield High School to speak to students about a career in the State Police.

10/26 – Troopers Clark, Quint and Sgt. Fuller responded to a Mars Hill residence for a domestic. A 19 year old male was out of control and threatened family members with a knife. When a 16 year old sibling grabbed a fire poker to defend herself, the 19 year old left the house to “get something bigger”. The other family members locked the door as the 19 year old retrieved a chain saw from the garage and tried to start it to gain re-entry. The saw would not start and the male fled into the woods when Troopers arrived. K-9 Gleni was used to track and locate the man who was arrested for DV Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon.

10/26 - Tr. Ferland stopped a 48 y/o female in Crystal for speeding. A consent search was conducted and the female was arrested for possession of a schedule W drug.

10/27 – Troopers Flynn, Clark, Quint and Marquis responded to a serious P.I. head-on crash on Rt. 1A in Easton. A full-size pick-up crossed into the opposing lane and struck a small car. The operator, and sole occupant of the car, received serious life-threatening injuries and had to be cut from the car. She was transported to TAMC then flown to EMMC. The early prognosis remains grim. The operator of the truck was also injured, but not seriously. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors. Tr. Flynn was primary and will reconstruct the crash.

10/27 – Tr. Clark took a third party report of a domestic assault from a person who wished to remain anonymous. The report involved a 29 year old woman being assaulted by her 30 year old boyfriend. Tr. Clark met with the victim and noted several fresh injuries including a black eye. She would not provide information on what happened. When Tr. Clark interviewed the man, he stated he had not been present and suggested another party might be responsible. When the female was made aware of the man’s claims, she then gave a detailed statement of being assaulted by the man. It appears there were also other witnesses including children. The man was arrested and charged with DV assault.

10/27 – Sgt. Fuller and Troopers Quint and Ferland responded to Linneus for the report of a 25 year old male making suicidal statements. The man had called several family members and was believed to have gone to another residence where he was hiding. There was also an active warrant on the man. While searching for the man, Sgt. Fuller stopped a minivan and a male matching the description of the man jumped from the van and fled into the woods. After tracking the man for some distance, the suicidal man’s mother called to report her son had called and she had picked him up. Troopers met with the mother, confirmed the man was no longer suicidal and arrested him on the warrants. While interviewing the man, he had no information on being stopped and running from the minivan. It was determined the subject who ran from the van was actually a different 25 year old who is also currently wanted. Besides being similar in appearance, the two men also share the same first name. Troopers will continue to look for the second man.

Troop F of the Maine State Police is responsible for Aroostook County and the extreme northern sections of Somerset, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties. In addition, the Troop patrols Interstate 95 from Sherman to the Canadian border in Houlton.
