Maine State Police – Troop F’s weekly incident report…

07/22 – Tr. Quint investigated a traffic crash involving a moose and a motorcycle. A Houlton man was operating his motorcycle east on US Rt. 2A in Linneus. A moose came into the roadway and while the man attempted to avoid hitting the animal, he veered into the ditch laying the bike on its side. The man suffered internal but not life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital. Linneus Fire Department and first responders assisted at the crash scene.

07/22 - A male approached Tr. Hafford and gave him information about a motor vehicle crash that had occurred in Frenchville the previous night. The crash involved a single male occupant who hit a house, destroying the front porch of the home. The operator had the car towed away and had made arrangements to have the porch fixed. Tr. Hafford responded and spoke to the elderly homeowner who stated that a young man had hit his house at approximately 0200hrs that morning in a white car. This information was similar to information the complainant had provided. Tr. Hafford located the owner of the car who admitted to operating at the time of the accident and stated he only had liability insurance on the car. The owner thought his arrangements to repair the damage to the house was all that was required. Tr. Hafford summonsed him for leaving the scene of a property damage accident. The car was a total loss.

07/22 - Troopers Saucier and Michaud responded to a domestic complaint in Patten. The investigation showed the argument was verbal only, but the male subject had three warrants and was taken into custody.

07/22 - Sgt. Haines investigated a report of an intoxicated juvenile staggering on Route 2 in Oakfield. The 13 year old was located and confirmed he’d been drinking at a residence in Oakfield and an adult bought him the alcohol. Subsequent interviews showed three minors were drinking and the 22 year old adult admitted to supplying the alcohol and was charged for furnishing. The juveniles were returned home and their parents were notified. Troopers Saucier and Michaud assisted after clearing other complaints.

07/22 - Tr. Marquis investigated a harassment complaint in Allagash and served a cease harassment notice on a 49 year old man. As a result the man started calling 9-1-1 repeatedly and either hanging up or making derogatory statements about his neighbors and Tr. Marquis. Troopers Marquis and Casavant along with Warden Sgt. Jeff Spencer went to arrest the man and found he had stashed his vehicle out behind his residence and there were tracks leading into the woods. Sgt. Fuller and K-9 Gleni were called and started tracking the man but the track quickly led back to his residence. After several minutes of banging on the door the man came outside and was taken into custody.

07/22 - Tr. Ferland responded to a copper theft in Sherman. A local farmer had approximately 100ft of thick copper wire stolen from his potato barn. The wire has serial numbers on it and the investigation is ongoing.

07/24 - Tr. Ferland was on an aircraft detail on I95. Tr. Ferland stopped a 57 year old male from Monticello and smelled the odor of marijuana in his vehicle. After conducting a search of the vehicle, Tr. Ferland found and charged the driver with possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.

07/25 - Tr. Sylvia investigated daytime residential burglary on the Catalina Road in Hodgdon. The homeowner left at 0700 hours and returned about 4 hours later to find someone had broken in and removed his safe. The safe was found to have been thrown out a window and was forced open in the backyard. The case remains under investigation.

07/25 Tr. Marquis investigated a burglary at the St Agatha recreation department building. Some property was stolen from the building and the investigation is ongoing.

07/25 - Tr. Lilley assisted Houlton PD with their investigation into three stolen ATV’s from a business in Houlton. Tr. Lilley went to a residence in Oakfield on suspicion that the homeowner may be involved. The homeowner is currently on bail conditions and Tr. Lilley was able to identify a bail violation and arrested the male for VCR. After the arrest, Tr. Lilley questioned him about the ATV thefts and ultimately gained a confession from the male, recovering all three ATV’s and also implicating two other males. The two other males were brought to HPD for their investigation.

07/27 - Tr. Cyr responded to Winterville for a report of goats that were loose and destroying foliage and trees at a neighbor’s house. The goats have been a continual problem in the area, often getting out and destroying neighbor’s property or causing traffic issues. We received 11 calls so far this year on the goats, 6 in the month of July alone. Tr. Cyr will be issuing a summons for the loose livestock when the owner is located.

07/28 – Tr. Michaud was called to Connor where a male subject reported that his girlfriend was intoxicated and causing problems at the home. Tr. Michaud arrived at the location and determined that the female had conditions of release that prohibited alcohol use. These conditions stemmed for an OUI arrest. She was extremely intoxicated and was arrested for VCR.

Troop F of the Maine State Police is responsible for Aroostook County and the extreme northern sections of Somerset, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties. In addition, the Troop patrols Interstate 95 from Sherman to the Canadian border in Houlton.
