UPDATE Jan 13: Chuck Hall has canceled the meeting and plans for a contract due to a personal health issue.

Spud Speedway has operated in Caribou for 51 years, but a firm racetrack operator for its 52nd season still needs to be finalized.
Chuck Hall is a longtime promoter and racer from Cherryfield. He says he was approached by Spud Speedway owner Troy Haney about leasing the facility for the summer of 2016 after the previous leasee did not renew.

Hall, who's had 27 years as a promoter, has ties to Aroostook County as a longtime friend of Caribou native Bob Alexander, a Maine Racing Hall of Famer. He's also known and worked with four-time NASCAR Busch North Series champion Andy Santerre and has raced stock at Spud numerous times in the past.

In this 1990 video, Hall is featured with racers Milo Haney and Jeff Willette

Hall is strongly considering signing a lease for the raceway at 209 Thompson Road but says he very much needs drivers to commit to races. Hall will be at Willette’s Automotive in Presque Isle, Wednesday January 13 at 6:30 pm to meet with potential drivers and sponsors. Hall adds Canadian drivers should know Spud Speedway is still here and can be a great racing venue.

If a contract is signed, he's looking to promote the venue with a mall show, to run a kid's club at the track with bicycle giveaways, and to feature racing every second Sunday. He says he'll also consider Pro-Stock racing if 10-12 drivers commit, but firm commitments are necessary to ensure profitability and audience turnout.

Hall says the meeting at Willette's Automotive on State Street, will feature sign-ups and an overview of the rules of the track.

Hall says it's a crucial meeting to determine if there will be a 2016 season at Spud Speedway.

Interested drivers can call Chuck Hall at 598-5914.
