There are plenty of returning mushers, including the top two finishers in last year’s Irving Woodlands Can-Am 250-mile race,  Ryan Anderson of Minnesota and Mario Racine of Quebec. Mushers in the three races will be competing for a total purse of $40,000.  The 250-mile race is also a qualifier for the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest.

Volunteers are busy preparing the track in downtown Fort Kent that will launch the dog sled teams on their trek through the snowy woods and fields of Northern Maine.

Spectators can comfortably view the start of all three races Saturday morning along Fort Kent’s Main Street and the finishes at Lonesome Pine Ski Lodge. The Can-Am Crown 250 also has designated spectator points in the towns of Portage Lake and Allagash.

You can also follow the big race throughout the weekend on the Can-Am website.
