A fast-moving fire Saturday morning displaced three residents of a home on Main Street in Washburn.

According to Washburn Fire & Rescue Chief Troy Heald, firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 10 a.m. The fire was reported to have started in a shed and jumped to a nearby 2-bay garage.

Heald said the flames quickly spread to the house, which was an older 2-story structure.

Firefighters from Washburn, Mapleton and Caribou worked together to bring the fire under control.  The residents made it out safely and no one was hurt. The home was a total loss.

Heald said the cause of the fire is under investigation. Members the Maine Forest Service and State Fire Marshall’s office have been to the site and no citations are pending.
