Presque Isle Elks to Offer Free Advanced Healthcare Directives
On Saturday, December 6, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge #1954, will offer free Advanced Healthcare Directives at the Lodge located at 508 Main Street in Presque Isle.
According to Elks Exalted Ruler Alan Harding, attorneys and nurses will be at the Lodge to advise individuals concerning the preparation of their Advanced Healthcare Directive, formerly referred to as a Living Will. With this document, an individual is able to designate persons to make medical decisions on behalf of that individual, elect to become an organ donor, and state the individual’s preference to end treatment or prolong treatment in the event of an incurable medical condition or permanent loss of consciousness.
Harding stated, “In this time of sharing, the Elks are proud to be able to offer this gift to every adult who does not already have an Advanced Healthcare Directive. With the heath care system that is currently in place, an Advanced Healthcare Directive is a critical document for every adult to have before they receive treatment in a hospital setting. When an individual is transported to a hospital under emergency conditions, it is often not possible for that individual to prepare an Advanced Healthcare Directive. For this reason, every adult should have an Advanced Healthcare Directive in place.”
“During the afternoon of Saturday, December 6, 2014, before the Presque Isle Holiday Light Parade, adults can obtain an Advanced Healthcare Directive, with the assistance of expert legal and medical advice, free of charge, by simply going to the Presque Isle Elks Lodge,” Harding concluded.
