Plane Lands on I-295 in Cumberland [UPDATE]

A single engine plane made an emergency landing in the southbound lane of I-295 in Cumberland Thursday.

According to Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, a Cessna 152, piloted by Sachin Hejeji of Falmouth, made an emergency landing in the southbound lane of I-295 in Cumberland around 5:00pm Thursday.

Hejeji landed in Cumberland and then taxied along the road for a while, before he parked the plane in the passing lane and median in Falmouth.

McCausland says Hejeji was headed from Waterville to the Portland Jetport. He was not injured and no vehicles were struck as the plane landed during rush hour traffic.

Traffic in the Southbound lane has reduced to a crawl and motorists heading south should seek alternative routes. Both northbound lanes are open, but traffic has slowed there as well.
