Many students of Aroostook County are back to school already and many will be heading back very soon. Often times children walk to and from school and the Houlton Police Department is working hard to ensure the safety of our kids.

The Houlton Police Department is now offering a limited number of signs to people and businesses to post reminding drivers to slow down. The signs were purchased using grant funds and are available at no cost to Houlton residents.

There are three different signs available and each one measures 18” x 24”. The signs come with metal stakes. The signs read “Keep Kids Alive, Drive 25”, “Be Aware, Drive With Care” and “No Need To Speed”.

One of the new signs has already been placed on outer Court Street. And signs will be  on High Street, Cleveland Street, Burleigh and Main Street, the Woodstock Road, South Street, Court Street, Military Street, Green Street, Sugarloaf Street, Maple Street and First Street.

The Houlton Police Department would like to see one of the signs posted on Smyrna Street, North Street, Pleasant Street, Bowdoin Street, Elm Street, Highland Avenue, Park Street and Randall Street.
