New Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Opening in Maine
According to reports, there will soon be a new place to enjoy some Louisiana-style chicken and biscuits in our Pine Tree State.
Who doesn’t love Popeyes? Both Mainers and folks ‘from away’ alike can’t get enough of their chicken, and it’s no wonder why! Even though Maine is far from Louisiana on the map, Popeyes brings the taste of the Bayou right to us.
And that taste will soon be even easier to find across the Pine Tree State.
Maine currently has three Popeyes locations: the West Gardiner Service Plaza, the Northbound Kennebunk Service Plaza, and a standalone restaurant in South Portland across from the Maine Mall.
Soon, a new location will open, making it the fourth Popeyes in our state. But where?
According to a report from the Sun Journal, a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is planned to open at 841 Lisbon St. in Lewiston.
This Lewiston location will join thousands of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurants across the country.
As of 2021, Popeyes reportedly has over 3,700 restaurants, located in more than 46 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 30 countries worldwide. So, that Bayou State flavor can be found all around the world.
Regarding the name, the franchise was allegedly named after Detective Jimmy ‘Popeye’ Doyle from the 1971 film The French Connection, not Popeye the Sailor.
Despite this, the brand became closely associated with the cartoon character, especially through its sponsorship of the ‘Popeye & Pals’ children's show in New Orleans.
