Caribou Man Threatens Officers with Handgun

A Caribou man is behind bars after allegedly threatening to shoot local police officers.

On Thursday night, at approximately 11:30, Caribou Police Dispatch received a 911 call from an individual threatening to shoot law enforcement officers. Officers responded to a residence on Liberty Street to find  Norman “Jody” Plourde, 43 of Caribou, outside the residence with a handgun. According to the Caribou Police Department, the officers tried to reason with Plourde for approximately 20 minutes to get him to drop the gun.

Plourde shot multiple rounds-some at police-before he was shot at and eventually surrendered the gun. Plourde was taken into custody unharmed and transported to Cary Medical Center to be evaluated. Police say alcohol was a major factor in the altercation.

Plourde is being charged with Class C Criminal Threatening with a Firearm, Class B Aggravated Reckless Conduct and Class E Discharging a Firearm near a Dwelling. Plourde is being held at the Caribou Police Jail. Bail has been set at $50,000 cash only.

Caribou Police Officers were assisted by the Maine State Police and Caribou Fire and Ambulance. An investigation is ongoing through the State of Maine Attorney General’s Office.
