
Man Sentenced to 9 Years for Possessing a Firearm in Maine
A 40-year-old convict and gang-affiliated man was sentenced to 9 years in prison for Illegally Possessing a Firearm in Maine.
Nine Years in Prison
Lonnel Diggs from Van Nuys, California also will have three years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty on August 19, 2024.
Straw Purchases of Firearms
Diggs and a co-conspirator were charged with making straw purchases of firearms in 2022.
Buy Guns for Cash and Crack
The two men arranged to have guns bought for them in exchange for cash and crack, according to court records.
Two People Made Gun Purchases
Two people went to gun shows in Maine and purchased firearms for Diggs and his co-conspirator.
Texted Images of Guns to Buy
“Diggs took photos of firearms and texted the images to the couple who then made the purchases and provided him with the firearms,” said the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Prior Convictions for Robbery and Assault
Diggs was convicted of Robbery in 2003. He also was convicted for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon on a peace officer in 2010. He was precluded from possessing firearms.
Lead Investigators
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with assistance from the Lewiston Police Department.
