A 37-year-old man was sentenced to 4 years in prison for drug trafficking and firearm charges after a traffic stop in Bangor.

Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm

Andrew Blais from Bangor had an active warrant when he was pulled over in October 2023. He was charged with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition and possessing controlled substances with the intent to distribute them.

Pleaded Guilty

Blais pleaded guilty to the charges on March 15, 2024. He will also have three years of supervised release.

Suspect had an Active Warrant

The Bangor Police Department pulled Blais over and identified him as wanted for an arrest warrant.

Drugs in Plain View and Handgun Seized

Court records said “Officers observed drug paraphernalia in open view in the vehicle and recovered bundles of cash and a loaded handgun on Blais’ person.”

Man had Fentanyl Hidden under his Clothes

Blais was searched at the Penobscot County Jail where police found 38 individual bags with fentanyl concealed under his clothes.

Prior Felony Drug Trafficking Conviction

Blais was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition due to a prior felony drug trafficking conviction.
