Man Charged in Fatal Snowmobile Accident in Edmundston Area
A 20-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving causing death in connection with a snowmobile crash in December 2014 in the Edmundston area that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man.
RCMP responded to the crash on Chemin Frédéric in Saint-Basile at approximately 10:30 p.m. on December 31, 2014. Two men on a snowmobile had gone over an embankment, according to Constable Steve Gagnon of the Rivière-Verte RCMP.
The two were taken by ambulance to the hospital, where the passenger, 19-year-old Jessy Doiron of Saint-Basile, passed away as a result of his injuries.
The investigation led to the arrest of the driver, 20-year-old Nicky Lavoie of Saint-Joseph-de-Madawaska, Gagnon said.
Lavoie appeared in Edmundston Provincial Court on March 16, and pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is scheduled to appear in court again on April 25.
