Maine Candy Shop Lands on List of Best Halloween Treats in the U.S.

Boo! 🎃 Guess what? Maine’s favorite candy shop has been named one of the best in the U.S.!

Since Halloween is almost here, they decided to name the best candy shops in the United States! Curious to see which spot in Maine made the list?

Len Libby Candies is located at 419 U.S. Route 1, in Scarborough.

The shop was founded in 1926. In 1949, Len Libby sold the store to Dr. Fernand Hemond, but remained involved, teaching the craft to Hemond’s son.

They produce handmade chocolates, fudge, caramels, saltwater taffy, and many other confections on-site.

One of their signature specialties is Needhams, a ture Maine classic, which is a coconut-based confection. Their version is made by cracking, peeling, shaving, and cooking fresh coconuts by hand.

They also produce Maine-themed sweets like maple sugar leaves, maple walnut bark, maple drops, etc.

Their best-selling candies include Bangor Taffy (a buttery caramel coated in powdered sugar).

The shop’s most famous attraction is Lenny, the life-size milk chocolate moose, who weighs about 1,700 pounds, which debuted in 1997. He stands roughly 8 feet tall by 9 feet wide.

There is also plenty of Lenny themed merch in the gift shop as well!

This sounds like to the perfect road trip to buy those yummy Halloween treats for the big day on the 31st, or to just indulge your sweet tooth, any time of the year.

The shop is accessible off Interstate 95 (exit 42) and is just south of Portland.

Len Libby Candies are open Monday through Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, be sure to try all the free samples of their popular candies when you visit.
