Every state in the nation still has some really strange laws on the books, leaving us wondering why. Maine has several strange laws that might have made sense back in the day when they were created, but most of these laws don't make any sense in the 21st century.

The Chowdaheadz website has a list of these strange laws, and I've chosen 5 of them that make absolutely no sense.

1. It Is Illegal to Catch a Lobster With Your Bare Hands

Okay. Help me out with this one. Lobsters live at the bottom of the ocean. Because of that fact, lobster fishing is one of Maine's biggest businesses. Can someone please tell me how you can catch a lobster on the bottom of the ocean with your bare hands? It makes me wonder who got the first fine for this and how they accomplished such a feat.

2. It Is Illegal in Waterville to Blow Your Nose in Public

I don't know about you, but this year's allergy season has been a brutal one. I feel like I have gone through enough tissues that I can fill my city trash can full of them. Gross right?

My question is, who is anyone bothering if they blow their nose in public? And what are you supposed to do if it's running down your face? Not blow your nose? Come on!

3. It is Illegal to Have Untied Shoelaces While Crossing the Street in Portland

If you're going to cross the street in Portland, you'd better make sure your shoelaces are tied or you could be fined. How much? Who knows? That law is out there, but I can't imagine anyone is going to get ticketed for such a thing.

4. The Most Money You Are Legally Allowed to Win in a Poker Game Is $3.00

Three dollars?!? Seriously Maine? So what happens if I make $3? Is it game over? This is dumb, just like how I play poker.

5. You Can Be Fined for Exiting an Airplane While It Is Still in the Air

Why would you bother to fine anyone who exits an airplane while it's still in the air? If they jump out, there's a very good chance they won't be around to pay that fine. Stupid.
