Help In The Fight Against Cancer By Pounding Pavement In Bangor This Sunday
We all know someone who has been affected by Cancer. And it can be hard to know how to help or what to do to make a difference.
Christina Parrish is a 15-year Cancer Survivor. She took it upon herself to create the nonprofit "The Purple Iris Foundation" after an 18-month battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
The mission of the organization is "to raise awareness, provide support, and give hope to individuals and families affected by cancer, in Maine." Through the organization, individual with Cancer can get support, help with resources, and even financial assistance through the Maine Cancer Relief Fund, based on their need and qualifications.
In order to provide these services, The Purple Irish Foundation does a number of fundraisers. Along with founding the organization, Parrish also founded one of its biggest fundraisers, the "Pound The Pavement 5K Color Fun Run/Walk" 11 years ago.
Natalie Khols, Parrish's sister who also works with the foundation says that last year's Pound The Pavement Event was their most successful to date.
"Last year, the 10th Annual Pound the Pavement was the most successful with more than $26k raised to support the Purple Iris Foundation."
"This year we've added more kids' games, a lactation station for expectant moms, and a tie-dye station for everyone, too."
The "Pound The Pavement 5K Fun Run/Walk" will take place Sunday, October 8th on the Bangor Waterfront.
Registration will start at 7:30 AM with the race taking place at 9:00 AM.
