A 29-year-old man faces up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to illegal possession of a firearm in Maine.

Charged with Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm

Shawn Small from New Gloucester entered the plea on Friday in U.S. District Court in Portland. He was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Officers received a Tip about Illegal Gun Sale

Small was arrested after trying to sell a pistol in Scarborough. Police received a tip and located him at a local business.

Man Physically Resisted Police during Apprehension

He physically resisted when officers approached him to take him into custody.

Pack Contained Smith & Wesson Piston and Loaded Magazine

“During the ensuing struggle, a pack was removed from his person. Inside that pack, officers located a Smith & Wesson pistol with a loaded magazine,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Prior Conviction for Robbery

He was a convicted felon and on probation for a prior robbery conviction.

Faces Up To 15 Years in Prison and $250,000 Fine

Small is facing up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He will also have three years of supervised release if convicted.

Lead Investigators in Firearms Case

Assisting in the investigation was the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Scarborough Police Department.
