Driver Injured When Car Strikes Moose in Southern Aroostook
A car-moose collision in southern Aroostook County sent a 60-year-old man to the hospital Monday evening.
State Police say Michael Kiernan of Haynesville was driving his 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo east on U.S. Route 2A in Forkstown Township shortly after 8 p.m.
Kiernan did not see the moose in the roadway and struck it, according to Corporal Dennis Quint. The moose went up onto the windshield and damaged the car's roof.
Kiernan sustained several cuts to his hand and was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital by a family member. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.
The vehicle will likely be a total loss,
